Monsters come in many sizes
And many strange and foul disguises;
Some have horns upon their head
And like to hide beneath the bed;
Some are green and known as bogey,
Not to be trusted, cunning and roguey.
Teeth and eyes and claws and tails,
Causing shouts and screams and wails.
Not often seen, maybe only
When you're sleepless, scared and lonely.
Then the shadows start to seem
Alive and haunting, in a dream;
You pull up the blankets over your head,
They are licking their lips, waiting to be fed.
You cannot see behind the chair
But know there is a monster there.
But a secret I must share
About these beasts of claws and hair;
For once I too had nights like these,
When I would sit and wish them please
To disappear and calm my fear.
So listen to my words and hear
They are not there, only silence deep,
So rest your head and soundly sleep.
