Zebra

Of all the beasts on the wild open plains
The Lion, Giraffe and the Gnu,
The zebras have the most beautiful manes
(even the ones in the zoo).

You just can't go wrong with a zebra
(though elephants bigger its true)
The stripiest stripes, a velvety nose
Myself, I have one I named Prue.

She lives in the shed in my garden
And eats lots of carrots and hay,
Her eyes are so bright and so sparkly
They brighten the weariest day.

I could never part with my zebra:
Her stripes bring my soul back to life.
I'd much rather be in the shed with my Prue,
Than be in my bed with my wife

Some say I'm a zebra obsessive
They may have a point, I admit
But 'tis better than being depressive
My zebra. She brings out my wit.

There's something I must do, I know
The thought of it fills me with dread
My darling Prue, one day must go
For even the cosiest shed

Cannot compare with those great open plains
Where zebras run careless and free
Though Prue's such a dear, she never complains
Perhaps she's just too fond of me.

Tomorrow we go to the airport
To take her to the Serengeti,
I know she'll love the freedom
But miss her tinned spaghetti.
